Custom film modules and lesson plans for educators

The producers of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide worked with ITVS’s Community Classroom program to create dynamic educational resources to inspire young people to engage with the most pressing issues facing women and girls worldwide.

Custom lesson plans draw on content from the film's website as well as the film to provide a media rich learning experience that will connect students to the lives of the women and girls featured in the project with their own. Lesson plans also address the critical role men play in supporting this global movement towards greater equality and opportunities for all.

Resources include film modules and lesson plans based on each of the theme areas addressed in the mini-series:

Maternal Mortality
Economic Empowerment
Education
Forced Prostitution and Sex Trafficking
Gender-Based Violence

Students will learn about the status of women and girls in the countries of Cambodia, India, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Somaliland and Vietnam, as well as the leaders in these countries who are implementing courageous and often risky measures to secure a promising future for women and girls everywhere.

Film modules and lesson plans are targeted towards high school and college students and align with key national standards. Activities and discussion questions were developed with adaptability in mind and for use in the community, beyond traditional educational settings.
