 One of the great social documentarians of the 20th century, Hansel Mieth captured the plight of the poor and the oppressed. Only the second woman to join Life magazine’s staff, she quickly became one of its most prolific photographers. While Mieth’s body of work chronicles some of the most devastating periods in American history, it remains a testament to the strength of the human spirit.
