Tip Drill
Nelly
St. Louis, MO

WARNING! Contains explicit lyrics (included for critical review and commentary).

I said it must be ya ass cause it ain't ya face
I need a tipdrill, I need a tipdrill

We throwin' money in the air like we don't give a fuck
Lookin' for a tipdrill, I mean a tipdrill

Now mama girl you gotta friend that don't mind joinin' in
I'm a tipdrill, cause I'm a tipdrill

Now baby girl bring it over let me spit my pimpjuice
I need a tipdrill, I need a tipdrill

I said it ain't no fun less we all get some
I need a tipdrill, we need a tipdrill

Now come on girl you know what we came here for
Is you a tipdrill, we need a tipdrill

You lookin' good in them shorts, but they look better on the floor
Cause you's a tipdrll, cause you's a tipdrill

What happened to the days when hip-hop was supposed to help revolutionize the minds of the masses? All this song proves is that now the masses are willing to accept a song that brings down the image of women in the black (and maybe Latino) culture. And this type of song just encourages men to believe that women are here to sexually satisfy them whenever they want. Let's remember that hip-hop portrays the image of the black and Latino culture, and reject songs like this.

this is the perfect example of what i call the bs in mainstream hip hop. dont get me wrong i like a club joint every so often but this is taking it way too far. it demonstrates everything wrong in this industrialized culture. nas is right, but i hope people will see soon the crap theyre listening to. crunk is among the worst if u ask me; all the beats and "lyrics" sound the same. i love hip hop, but right now im going underground and someone call me up when you hear something worthwhile.

Here's the sad thing about this song/video. At the end of the day, like most "songs" of this particular genre within Hip Hop, by artists in the similar vain of Nelly, the song is straight trash. All the negativity involved in the song/video aside, itıs just not a good song, at all. As for the song/video's contribution towards the perpetual negative images and ideas of what Hip Hop is, see the first person's comments - that explains everything. People get caught up in the imagery and fall in love with the fantasy of what they thing is real, and forget - or worse, don't bother to think about the real underlining message the song/video is presenting. But what's even more depressing is the fact that those who came up with the concept, wrote, produced, and shot the song/video never even thought that there was a problem with what they were doing until it was pointed out to them - and even then they were still clueless. Wake up folk,

As a man who loves and respects women, this is disgusting! It sends so many terrible messages to young girls and boys about their respective roles. It reinforces many negative stereotypes. I ask how can we expect other cultures to respect us, if we do not first respect ourselves? I love Hip Hop, but I despise this. It's sad that talented young artists use their talents to oppress and objectify human beings. I love sexy women too, but News Flash: THEY ARE HUMAN BEINGS FIRST.

This video is so much more about money and power than about sex. It's about sad people desperately trying to wield what little power they have by abusing those with even less power. Everyone in this video is a victim.

Lyrically, this song sucks. There was no thought, or effort put into this song -- a crappy beat with dime-a-dozen lyrics. To call the song ignorant would be superfluous. For years I've listened to the tragic fall of hip hop because of songs like this. It does nothing for the advancement of hip-hop. Moreover, it does nothing for the advancement of the generation growing up with this music. Hip-hop today isn't telling children "hey, go be a leader in your community" or "stand up against the war in Iraq." Instead, mainstream hiphop, or what I like to refer to as C-Rap, is telling them to forget the real world around them and go shoot someone, or go slap a hoe in the ass, or go and do both (at the same time if you're real thug like that, or while ghost riding your whip). Ridiculous. Who's to blame for the direction that C-Rap is going. Is the artist to blame for putting out something that sells. Is the record label at fault for force feeding their idea of the hottest song to the public. Are consumers to blame for not seeing where C-Rap is going and standing to say "this music is crap!" Like El-P said, "if sales control stats, I place no faith in the majority." I feel that record lables are putting C-Rap out because that's what people want to hear. And because of that, record labels are obliged to give the people what they want, so they the flood the media with C-Rap, and more copy-cat MCs are putting out more C-Rap. It reminds of a quote I read on a calendar that said "Never underestimate the power of dumb people in a group." Come on people, wake up and realize that what you hear on the radio isn't hiphop, its C-Rap. Maybe if you stop buying it, they'll stop putting it out.

I hate all songs in which disrespect women ... because I know young girls are not mature enough or don't even think of want the artist is really saying when listening to it ... just because the rapper sings it and he is popular, the young fall for this.. sad but this is how they get the young boy/girls negative attention... this is just not cool. that is why we live is a society full of disrespect ... it's many songs, not just this one... they are full of negative thoughts and dreams that will not happen unless you turn away and reach for something more positive. Keep the rythem .. just change the lyrics to something more promising for our young generation.

Well there it is, videos are so XXX you dont know if it is porn or a rap video, i like videos when it was, a rapper 2 to 3 dancers and one mike, 1 rapper 1 mike, thats all, and a routine, i know times has changed, i guess i am not ready, and for the chics in the videos, its more ways to make money with out showing all ya business, i feel people that have all that eye candy, are really not that talented, it is just fluff to hide their weakness in,

This song is xtremely awesome, and so is the xtremely awesome video. Every day i sit at home and just admire the beautifulicious girls, which i respect very greatly, but they still got ratchets though. I think nells(nelly) did us a big favor by making this rump-a-dump vid. I hope he will make more in the future.Know why, know why, cause i need a TIPDRILL, i need a TIPDRILL.

By the time Nelly came along with his audioporn "Tip Drill" mainstream hip hop was already in a race to the bottom. In a music permeated with misogynistic cliches it took a whole lot to stand out for threadbare contempt of women, but somehow Nelly managed to accomplish just that. The tragic thing about Nelly is that he is a talented artist but one who apparently chose to pander to the most simpleton perspectives of women in order to sell records. "It ain't no fun 'less we all get some?" Some what -- common sense?

Joseph, Just Think!

This song portrays women as sex toys and objects that men can do anything with. It mentions that it's fun for men to line up and take turns [with] women. Listening to this on the radio, most people wouldn't care or really think about the lyrics and message the song is spreading. However, songs like this in masses will subconsciously create an image for men that women are really just property and shouldn't be treated with respect.
