Any Day Now
Carina
Berkeley, CA

I rock sweat pants and brown bare feet
No make-up but I feel sexy
Got my skin out and my hair nappy
I hope you gotta sweet tooth 'cuz it's just that deep

Here I am now look at me
I wonder if you can see what I see
Flaws written all over me
My imperfections like beauty marks

Any day now
Let you watch me untie at my seams
Pull the thread and watch me break down
Baby break down

Ok..cool..Always love the subtle and abstract. But I wanted more. It's a start, where does it end? More of a poem than a song.

Jelani Cobb

This takes me back to a point where females in hip hop could be flirtatious, even sexy without being reduced into caricatures. Among its virtues was the fact that hip hop made it a requirement for its artists to make some version of the statement "Look at me, I'm beautiful."

"Imperfections like beauty marks?" Overt references to nappy hair? Rare. No one seems to realize it, but there is a whole generation of people who grew up with hip hop, people who are almost old enough to be this artist's mother or father who are waiting for someone to be brave enough to make just this kind of music.

Steven, Just Think!

The song says that she is beautiful but she has problems that she deals with, I think its good for her that she knows she's pretty and that she is true to herself about her problems that she is going through.
