Thank You, Thank You, Thank You....
for covering the story on Storefront Churches. I have lived in several big cities and have wondered often about them. Finally I had a chance to really get an inside peek. I was humbly enlightened as well as inspired by the people running the Churches as well as the the people who attend them. As I grow older (and wiser) I realize more and more that the place of worship is not as important as the message delivered. PBS you are the best!!!!

Fantastic moving insite into Black culture, I was deeply moved as a white christian I was put to shame and tears were flowing. The boldness of the witnessing scenes were powerfull and showes that being a fool for Christ is not foolish. I felt I was looking in on a precious overlooked rich culture and church family that every white church in America should emulate. (Blessed are the poor in reality and spirit). I'm going to change for the better because of it.

Praise the LORD! This is Brother C from the documentary film LET THE CHURCH SAY AMEN! Thank You all for your response to the documentary & Prayers. Pray for my family and I as we continue on this christian Journey. Just a little update of our life!
1 year after my son was murdered here in Washington, DC Our 27 Year old daughter was also murdered, shot in her home in washington, DC. But, GOD is still good and in control. Even though the devil is trying his best to break our faith we won't let him.
The devil has tooken 2 of our children but the LORD has instilled in us the HOLY GHOST, which leads us, guides us, protect us,comforts us and believe me it keeps us! Don't ever turn your back on GOD, because if GOD is for you, than who can be against you! You can do all things thru Christ Jesus whom strengthens you! After my daughter passing GOD gave me two more jobs! He certified and ordainded me as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he also allowed me to establish & Incorporate a non profit ministry by the name of M.F.J.C. Ministries, which means Ministering For Jesus Christ. I am the C.E.O. President and Founder of this organization. I am not boasting just showing the world that the devil take wordly things away but when you are a desciple of Jesus Christ, theres nothing the devil can do, I mean NOTHING in this world the devil can do to turn me against GOD!

Dear Pastor Perkins,
My husband and I sat and watched the entire program together and had to hold back tears. We could relate to everyone in the documentary being native Washingtonians ourselves. Brother Fulmore's testimony of his son's death, his prayer to see justice, the perpetrator turning himself in, and Brother Fulmore giving the honor to the Holy Spirit was all we needed to praise God and shout.
Thank you for opening your doors to us. We will support and pray for your building project.
God Bless,
Dee Greene

I started watching LET THE CHURCH SAY AMEN by accident, and it immediately grabbed my attention, and watching the show turned out to be simply an amazing experience. In this superficial, materialistic world we live in today, this documentary is a wakeup call to everyone that there are REAL pains and sufferings. I was moved to tears by the heartbreaking pains that Brother Fulmore and family suffered in their sonšs death. It is especially heartening to see how they drew courage and strength from faith and Christian believes to see them through the most difficult times. Stories such as David Surles and Darlene Duncan, their continued efforts to overcame difficulties and to apply themselves in working toward their long cherished dreams, are inspirations to us all. Personally, this documentary has brought me close to my faith, and reminded me again how much we all have to be grateful for. It really makes you reevaluate what is really important in this life. I love the show! I would recommend it to everyone and hope to see it on network television someday soon. Everyone should watch this.

Praise the Lord,my name is Dr. JoAnn Perkins and I am founder and present senior pastor of World Missions For Christ Church. I appreciate the comments shared about our church and the work that was done under my brother's leadership, when he pastored the church.
We are presently lauching our Nehemiar building fund drive to purchase our church and through the grace of God, we are praying for partners to help us in this project. Should you like to support us with prayers and plant a financial seed of support towards our building fund drive, you may send your tax deductible donations to us at: World Missions For Christ Church; P.O. Box 92083, Washington, DC 20090-2083. Again, as we move forward doing the Lord's work in inner-city communities, we ask that you keep us in your prayers, as we give God the Glory for the things he alone is doing through our ministry.

I was So moved by this film; the courage and faith portrayed is powerful. But why are there so few comments here in talkback, addressing the unbearable disparage between the haves and have-nots. The symbolism represented by doing this story set in Washington D.C. rather than any other big American city...The potent closing scenes of a 'white' Easter egg hunt, on a lawn being 'advertised' as belonging to everyone under the blossoming cherry trees, put an exclamation point on the apathetic, savage greed and insecurity of our human-family! Where is my courage and faith to make a difference? As much Hope as there is in our world the despair is staggering. Thank you for depicting this dycotomy in such a profound manner.

This was a very true reflection of life today. I felt connected to every persons in the film. I got to know them. I cried and rejoiced. Most of all I gained a new since of HOPE. The black church used to be center and focus of unity our families and communities. When we take on the same passion the Missions church has we will take back our youth and strenghten our communiity again. We thrive by learning to love and support eachother.
Thank you.
I'd like to know updates on everyone. Did brother David get a home?

I REALLY WAS INSPIRED BY THE AWESOME STRENGTH THAT WAS SHOWN FROM DR JOANN PERKINS WHEN SHE DECIDED TO START THIS WONDERFUL CHURCH. IT HAD TO BE THE WORK OF GOD THAT WAS IN HER TO SHARE SO MUCH LOVE, AND COMPASSION TO THE COMMUNITY AS SHE DID WITH THE CHURCH. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE REALLY COMMITTED TO GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY AND I LIKE THAT. WE NEED MORE OF THAT GOING ON. THIS WAS A VERY POSITIVE AND INSPIRING FILM AND I HOPE THAT THE CHURCH GROWS FROM THE REALISM THAT WAS DISPLAYED BY IT'S MEMBERS. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A DONATION TO THE CHURCH SO CAN YOU LET ME KNOW WHERE I NEED TO SEND IT OR WHAT IS THE ADDRESS OF THE CHURCH? THANKS SO MUCH AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL ESPECIALLY THE FILM PRODUCERS

Due to scheduling, I have not been able to view the entire file. The portion that I have seen is outstanding and moving. I am definitely interested in seeing "Let the Church Say Amen" in its entirety. Please rebroadcast this inspiring program. Everyone needs to see this film. Thanks for airing such a quality film.

Let the Church Say Amen was a refreshing documentary. It was a story told without the intrusion of network commentary that tend to erode the native power and dynamics of the real life situations. God bless the people of the church filmed.

This show blessed me deeply. Praise God for beautiful, Spirit-filled believers!! I was so encouraged by the faith of this church. As I was watching the show, I kept thinking, "Jesus, these people are so beautiful," and I was reminded of that verse that says, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news." I'm just a white girl in Ohio, but God has given me a "holy ache" inside to pray for racial healing in America. As I watched, I was moved by Jesus' sadness that people who look like me are so "far away" (separate) from people who look like you. I would like to ask you to forgive us for being separate from you...especially those of us in the church of Jesus Christ. Please don't stop what you're doing there. Please don't ever give up or start to think that anything is impossible for God. I just want to say thank you. Thank you for who you are and for being the part of the Body of Christ that you are because it is so important to all of us. And I want to say that God's anointing was on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said those famous words: "I have a dream..." God was moving on those words then, and He is still moving on those words today. Don't give up, because he was talking about the very dreams in God's heart. And God is always faithful to complete what He started. Bless you all...I won't ever forget you because your faith encouraged me so much, and I'll keep praying for you before the throne of grace. Remember that...He's on the throne!

i really enjoyed the film, it was very inspiring! i like the small setting of the church b/c you have full access to the pastor & wife and your just not another face in the crowd. although i don't attend church anymore b/c i don't want to go through all the things that i been through since i have been saved. its been too much and i can't take it anymore. i still believe in God and that Jesus died for our sins. i still pray in tongues regulary too. i guess one day i will go back just not right now. just know that the film was made for a good reason and everyone who was suppose to see it seen it!!
everyone stay strong and blessed!!
hey tell david surles he looks good and if i seen him on the street i would never think he used to be on drugs unless he told me. god is good huh? email me............:-)

I made a point to watch this when I saw it advertised on the TV Guide for the week. I thought it was a brilliant representation of religion, the harsh realities of urban living and how the two mesh. The stories were so real for me, and I think that the filmaker took extra care in capturing the realness. I particularly understand Brother C's plight in bringing the killers of his son to justice, as I know someone who lost his life in that very same neighborhood and the killers were never caught. Thanks WETA for bringing this great work of art to our living rooms.

I am have to say many thanks to PBS for showing 'Let the Church Say Amen'it has thought me a lot, it has inspired me to get the film and show it to memebers in our church, I think that people in our church has become so lazy, so spiritually dead, that they have forgotten the purpose of church, to take care of other memebers, to go out and spread the gospel of God, to bring new memebers into the church. I think that everyone who's church is going through the same situation should get this film and show it to their memebers then discuss ways that their church needs to change. Thank you again, PBS and the churhc the little churhc that was used, I hope that the church grows, and the spirit of God is always there. Amen!!!

I am not a church-goer and I have been extremely skeptical of President Bush's faith-based social initiatives. But to see the power of this church within the community made me take notice of how much help people can get through a strong shared belief. I was moved, not only by the faith of this community, but by their selfless teamwork and remarkable organization. And it all centered around the church, with people doing what they could for themselves and others, whenever they could squeeze it in, but always having to make it back in time for church. I have to rethink my positions now, because people like these can do all of us some good.

What a fantastic documentary! It is refreshing to see faith so boldly proclaimed. It taught me a lot. This community is an example not only for Christians but for every American. It brought me to tears many times.
In a time where TV is infested with so many "reality shows" it is great to be able to see a show about real people, real life and real faith.
To God be the glory.
Thank you PBS.
God bless,
ek

I truly felt divine guidance in my viewing of this program, because I wouldn't normally be watching tv at the hour the program was aired on our local station.
It was an honor to be allowed to learn/view the plight of these people. I was so impressed with their dignity, strength, hope, faith, perseverance. Some of their most simple requests are for things I've taken for granted throughout my life time.
I am interested in sending a donation to their church. Would you please provide me with a mailing address?
I am awed by their love for Jesus and their commitment to Him. I profess to be a Christain, but I certainly am lacking in comparison to each one of the individuals we followed in the program. A bit of my heart is with each of them.
Congratulations to all involved in the filming. From reading the producer's notes, I can see that it was truly a labor of love! The love of Christ!

I was truly moved by this film. My husband and I were drawn in during a late night channel surf after I recognized one of my former patients in the film. I am a registered nurse and I was employed by one of the city's largest healthcare organiztions that services the homeless and underinsured. This film is a gem. Living in a world as troubled as this one, this story is a refreshing testimony to the the power of God, love, prayer, patience, and persistance.

This was one of the best Independent Lens films this year. This is what "reality T.V." should aspire to. Showing real people overcoming real problems without trying to glitz and package it, a real gift to this viewer.

Absolutely moving and inspiring documentary! To see people of faith endure in their difficult circumstances and and still press on with fellowship and faiths of steel, absolutely moved me to shame and guilt as a Christian. I've been so blessed but have often failed to appreciate how much God has blessed me. As I come to recognize more and more, it really is true that those who know and love the Lord best are those who only have the Lord to depend on. Brother C, thank you for your awesome testimony. I pray I too can one day claim of having as unwavering faith in the Lord as yours. May God bless World Missions for Christ Church and the urban community it serves, and all other communities like it.

As a fellow Christian, and a grieving parent like my brother in this moving film record, I was greatly uplifted tonight by the testimony of my fellow believers in DC. Thank you for sharing this intimate, unvarnished look at the lives of everyday Christians who seek to follow Him in the midst of difficult circumstances of all kinds.
Since our daughter Lora's passing, I have come to grasp the reality that this world is NOT my home... it's a kind of Boot Camp for my next, everlasting life with Him and our dear daughter. In her sermon notes (that I found after her death), she wrote that God doesn't promise us safety in this life (and she wrote down "John the Baptist"). Your powerful video testimony "Let the Church Say Amen" affirmed this truth, and encouraged me deeply tonight. Again, thank you.

This film moved me to tears. We are the only African Americans in the town that we live in and this film put a longing in me to return to my heritage.
Their tenacity to endure even during the hard times is so inspirational. Their trust and faith in God was a blessing to see.
Thank you so much for showing the world this part of America.

A powerful, positive film which looks at poor people and their tragedies and triumphs with respect and honors the heroic efforts of this small neighbohood church.
It is a real eye-opener to see so much beauty and creativity flourishing in a part of DC many people pass over on their way to someplace more comfortable....
Congratulations to this kind, faithful congregation and to the film-makers who made this film.

Thank You for this film.
I was truly moved to tears watching this film. I feel the American people get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget about the people who are struggling every day to provide for their families.
This program was a eye opener for me. I want to Thank the people of World Mission for sharing their Ministry with me. This program truly shows the power of prayers changes things.
My Thoughts and Prayers with them.

So often we look at the physical elements of life. We praise those congregations with the big churches, massive memberships and abundant finances. This film has reminded us that the purpose of church and all Gods children is to help others. It is not the materialistic things that God cares about. It is our hearts. The people featured in this film, despite their previous or current situations, have given so much of themselves to others and the ministry. I am truly bless and inspired by them all and I pray that God will continue to work in their lives.

PBS,
This was very moving for me being a black male who's 34 and still seeks a role model to provide the spiritual needs for me.I was just a kid from Brooklyn, Ny who let my enviornment lead me to a past that lingers in my family today. You see i have 5 children and i can't get a job to support them due to a petty drug felony from 13 years ago. It's hard but just as i get to my weakest point events like "Let the Church say A-men " comes across my path .God bless you all and pray for my family so that we may survive with all the disencouragement in our path . I want my children to look at me as a provider and a role model so they may not fall by the wayside. I say let us all say A-men and save our precious children so they can avoid these hardships , A-men!

Well done!!! The media rarely illustrates the Black Community as having strong, positive sub-groups as depicted in "Let The Church Say Amen" This was great for me as I had just finished reading poverty as race, power and wealth by jennings and kushnick, that covered many of the issues concerning the exploitation of the poor/working poor Black community. I would like to know when abc,cbs or fox plans to air it!!! Congratulations again and thanks PBS for all your efforts.

This documentary moved me to tears...it was a living testament to the power of Jesus in the lives of those who believe. There are stories and experiences like this everywhere, but this film highlighted some truly desperate sould who found peace through Christ, and the faith that brings this community together. Excellent filmmaking, and I feel so honored I was able to be a witness to this uplifting look at the power of belief and faith. Amen!

Dear Talkback,
For me, watching this program was something that I will never forget.
I had enjoyed the energy as well as the enthusiasm of this Pastor's mission to change an entire community.
In my neighborhood, there are many storefront churches, and the love that pours out of these churches is genuine. Noone gets lost in the shuffle.Everyone knows each other, and the Pastor reaches out to his Congregation.
Can one person change a community? Yes, I believe that is possible. But,it takes just one person to begin the journey, and it takes others to continue the journey.
Thank you for this program, it gave me hope.
