Another style rising out of the Yoruba culture is fuji, featuring a mixed percussion sound. Fuji was named by one its early practitioners, Chief Dr. Alhadji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, after Japan's "mountain of love." Barrister began his career singing Islamic "were" songs as a child and infused the new form of fuji with a distinctly Muslim flavor. Other notable fuji artists include Ayinla Kollington and Adewale Ayuba.
