RUBBER MARTIAN SONG
by Jeff Grimshaw
in my fist her rubber martian
in my heart her rubber face
in my jar a quart of starshine
swanking up my rubber place
now she's dancing with her martian
now she's dancing with her dad
now she's dancing on the ceiling
where the cobwebs look so bad
rubber eyes on rubber stalks
filled with rubber-scented air
eyes that dance like Fred & Ginger
(Fred the martian - not Astaire)
dancing out my rubber door
& 'cross the grainy rubber sand
& crimson shadows swirl behind her
from my crimson ampersand
in my fist her rubber martian
in my heart her rubber face
dancing through the rubber valley
from my empty rubber place.
