Talkback

Submit your thoughts on PAUL CONRAD: Drawing Fire.

We invite you to respond to the questions below or add your comments. Selected submissions will be posted on our Talkback page, so check back regularly and join the discussion.
  • Filmmakers Barbara Multer-Wellin and Jeffrey Abelson say, “Some suggest it is unpatriotic to criticize our leaders during a time of war but, for most cartoonists, including Conrad, dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” Do you agree with this assessment that media censorship is on the rise? Why or why not?

  • In PAUL CONRAD: Drawing Fire, Tom Brokaw narrates that Paul Conrad’s “exit from the Los Angeles Times before he was ready to retire was not an isolated event. It happened in the context of the takeover of the media by large corporations and a resulting shift toward avoiding controversy.” What other shifts do you think have occurred as a result of the recent growth of corporate media?

  • What role do you think humor and satire play in politics and journalism today?
