Collage:
Headshot of Ram Dass today, pensive, leaning on his hand juxtaposed against a young, bearded Ram Dass with sunburst sculpture behind him.
“The stroke caused me to lose faith, and it was a cold, cold place, and I suddenly realized it was fierce grace… that turned my life around.”

After Harvard expelled Richard Alpert for LSD experimentation in 1964, the former professor traveled to India and returned as Ram Dass. Now in his seventies, the author of Be Here Now continues to teach and inspire as he deals with the effects of a massive stroke. Follow one indomitable man’s journey from 1960s counterculture to the present as he transforms an unexpected illness into a call for grace.
