- Ram Dass calls his physical limitations the result of “fierce grace” and uses his predicament as a way to help others deal with their own pain. Is there a time when you have experienced something that could be defined as “fierce grace”? If so, when?
- Ram Dass says, “The stroke is like a whole new incarnation. There are qualities in me that never would have come out, never. I’m at peace more now than I have ever been.” In what ways do you think an unexpected setback, such as stroke, could bring peace? What qualities might this bring out in a person?
- Harvard University justified its 1963 firings of Richard Alpert and Timothy Leary because of the professors’ controversial—and illegal—research on psychedelic chemicals. Do you agree or disagree with Harvard’s decision? Why?
