SISTERS: Portrait of a Benedictine Community

Benedictine Life

1. An elderly nun wearing wire-rim glasses, a grey coat over a white top, and a black habit on her head gazes out the window. The sun is shining on her face and pouring through cathedral windows into the red brick corridor. 2. A group of middle-aged women stand together in a chapel with a stained glass window in the background. The women are praying and singing with hands palms up.

Life is changing for the Benedictine sisters of the St. Scholastica Monastery.
From the way they pray to the way they arrive at and answer their calling.
With fewer entering the monastery, the sisters strive to keep age-old tradition from becoming eclipsed by modern times.
