Get Involved

John Trudell, a middle-aged man with a beard and mustache, sits cross-legged in a wooden rocking chair in an empty field of brown grass, scattered cumulous clouds in the distance. He wears jeans and a black leather jacket over a black shirt, a brown skullcap over his long hair and black sunglasses. His arms are folded on his lap.

From the Filmmaker

“One of my strongest wishes for the film is that…subsequent generations will have a context for the contemporary Native People’s movement and a point of reference for leaders such as John Trudell, understanding their significance in history.”
—Heather Rae

Filmed over 12 years, TRUDELL documents the life of Native American activist and poet John Trudell, from his impoverished childhood on a Nebraska reservation to his days as a leader of the American Indian Movement and his rise as an acclaimed musician. Combining images and archival footage with interviews and performances, TRUDELL reveals the story of one man’s passionate journey from individual to leader to artist.

Community Engagement

ITVS Community is proud to support TRUDELL with a variety of community outreach events and materials.
