A Waste of Equipment & Supplies

In this excerpt from TRAPPED, Marva Sadler, Director of Clinical Services at Whole Woman’s Health, a group of reproductive health clinics that operates eight locations in five states, explains the upgrades she’s made to her facility to meet state regulations. The upgrades include wall-mounted oxygen machines instead of free-standing units, which are seldom if ever used; a pharmacy stocked with drugs patients don’t need that end up in the trash, costing the facility around $13,000 a year; hospital linens instead of more common disposables — patients are required to fully undress unlike in other states where they only undress from the waist down; and an operating room outfitted with the same equipment necessary to conduct open heart surgery.
