Olga

For "Cliques: Behind The Labels", Olga was inteviewed in a coffee shop with her friend Leah. Parts of the interview are included here and reveal a little more about Olga. Olga is 16 years old.

Talking about her appearance, Olga say she got bored of being like everyone else, but she pays a price for her individuality:

"Basically, people are just scared of things that are different from them, and when they see someone on the street who looks different, they make fun of them because they don't know what they're about. They think that just because they look different, they're evil or insane".

Olga reflects on family life: "I'm 16 years old, but I feel like I'm 30 years old". From the time she was a child right up to her adolescence, she has felt different, she never quite fit in. As she talks about her elementary school years, we get a glimpse of this as well as some personal reflections on her family life:

"I definitely think I'm closer with my friends than my family because my family's pretty much crazy, but that's like a whole different other story. They don't accept me. But my friends accept me because they like me. So, I can trust them with anything-- I can't trust my parents with most of the things I do…. Well, I used to be really close to my parents but then I don't know what happened. I changed. And now I'm a lot closer with like my friends…. They're like a family; I love most of them as much as I love my parents…"

"Some people just totally ignore their parents and just hate you, and I love my friends and my friends don't, but they usually end up in the gutter, dying. Because you have to like, have your parents there for you too, 'cause you can't just totally depend on your friends, because your friends have like problems too. You can't totally depend on your friends. You can always depend on your parents.
