About the Presenters

Independent Television Service (ITVS)
Unique in American public television, the Independent Television Service (ITVS) was established by Congress "to fund and promote programming that involves creative risks and addresses the needs of underserved audiences," while granting artistic control to independent producers. In 1998, ITVS presented producer David Sutherland's landmark, critically-acclaimed PBS series THE FARMER'S WIFE, which looked at the current farm crisis.

ITVS has funded more than 350 programs for public television since its inception in 1991. ITVS programs include FORGOTTEN FIRES, Emmy Award winners GIRLS LIKE US and NOBODY'S BUSINESS, the Peabody Award-winning documentaries TRAVIS, A HEALTHY BABY GIRL and THE GATE OF HEAVENLY PEACE, and duPont Award winners TAKEN IN: THE LIVES OF AMERICA'S FOSTER CHILDREN and STRUGGLES IN STEEL: A STORY OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN STEELWORKERS.

For more information contact ITVS at 51 Federal St., First Floor, San Francisco, CA 94107; Email: pr@itvs.pbs.org or visit the ITVS Web site at www.itvs.org.
