First Plan of Monticello
1769–70

Jefferson’s first rough sketch of Monticello shows the strong influence of the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio on his architectural ideas. In the first of many designs for Monticello, Jefferson planned a double portico for the east facade.
