"A Summer in the Country"

While expecting to photograph wild birds near the headwaters of the Hudson River, I came across an even rarer sight. A group of "street kids" traveling north from New York City that had stopped by the rush of sparkling water for a rest. They were on their way to stay the entire summer with families in Vermont. Never were children so happy as these on their first day discovering mountains, and rivers, and trees "that go on forever." As was this young fellow, on his way to a world he had never imagined in pursuit of happiness he might never have known.
