During the Jacksonian Era, the United States of America underwent a political, economic, and social transformation. The effects of these changes varied. During Jackson's presidency, for example, with the removal of Native Americans to the west of the Mississippi, the institution of slavery rapidly expanded in the South, widening the divide between the northern and southern states. Jackson's presidency also coincided with the birth of the modern day two-party system and Jackson himself dramatically increased the power exercised by the president.
Andrew Jackson's influence on the era and on American history as a whole cannot be denied. His home, the Hermitage, now stands as a museum to his presidency and life, where artifacts, documents, and stories capture the accomplishments of this controversial man.
