…and only if our students work harder and our teachers work harder and study more of the academic solids will we be able to compete with other nations. How will we know when we’ve succeeded? Test scores. We’ll have tests that will determine this.

…fill the bubble with a Number 2 pencil test that we give kids, the objective tests. Teachers, I think, quite rightly feel that those tests measure only the smallest portion of what the children actually learn. But many teachers feel a pressure to teach to that test and not to teach in a way that makes more sense to herself and her other teacher colleagues.
