Influential producer Norman Lear was a pioneer in socially conscious TV, with a string of hits including Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, Maude and the acclaimed All in the Family. His comedies featured families that regularly confronted major political and social issues of the day. Lear also founded the liberal public interest group People for the American Way and, most recently, the nonpartisan Declare Yourself.

Geoffrey Canada is an expert on parenting and children's issues. He's CEO of Harlem Children's Zone, which provides educational, social and medical services to children. Canada went from the tough South Bronx streets to earning his master's degree from Harvard's Graduate School of Education. He won the first Heinz Award for his work, and has written two books, Fist Stick Knife Gun and Reaching Up for Manhood.
