The Motorcycle Diaries exec producer Robert Redford and director Walter Salles discuss the globalization of their film and the state of independent filmmaking.
Walter Salles
Director-writer Walter Salles is credited with spearheading the return of Brazilian films to international prominence. The UK's The Guardian voted him one of the 40 'Best Directors in the World.' Salles is best known for Central Station, which earned two Oscar nods. He's also won awards in many international festivals. His latest directorial effort, The Motorcycle Diaries, is a Latin American road-trip movie about a pre-revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
Robert Redford
Robert Redford is a powerful force in the motion picture industry. His work is critically acclaimed both in front of and behind the camera. He's championed independent film with the founding of the Sundance Film Festival - one of the most important venues for presenting indies in the U.S. Redford is also a founding board member of the Natural Resources Defense Council and passionate about environmental issues. His newest project is as exec-producer of The Motorcycle Diaries.
