Marie Smith became President of AARP last April. She previously held several senior positions within the Social Security Administration. She also served on the AARP Board of Directors, chaired its National Legislative Council and was a volunteer specialist in the Social Security field with experience in Medicare, Medicaid and adult day care programs and nursing homes. Smith has a strong commitment to women's, multi-ethnic, retirement security and aging issues. She's also a freelance writer.

Tavis: Marie Smith is the president of the AARP, the nation's largest organization of retirees. Recently, the Hawaii native was named to "Ebony" magazine's list of the 100 most influential African Americans leaders in all of America. Proud of her post at the AARP, she also served in the Social Security Administration, and speaking of Social Security, here's one of the spots the AARP has been running in opposition to President Bush's plan.
