United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta discusses the growing public protests over U.S. immigration reform. Husband-and-wife singing-songwriting duo Kindred the Family Soul reflects on balancing music and family.
Dolores Huerta
For more than three decades, Dolores Huerta's name has been synonymous with labor. In addition to being a single mother raising eleven children, she led the nationwide grape boycott, which led to the first collective bargaining agreements for farm workers in U.S. history. Working alongside Cesar Chavez, she co-founded the United Farm Workers of America. Raised in Stockton, CA, Huerta left her grammar school teaching position to 'do more.' In '93, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of fame for her efforts.
Kindred the Family Soul
Philly-based husband and wife singer-songwriters Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon - Kindred the Family Soul - have been dubbed the 'first couple of contemporary soul.' They were each solo performers who teamed up as songwriters in the late 90s. After marrying, starting a family and working outside of the business for a while, they began performing in local clubs and landed a recording contract. The follow-up to their successful '03 debut CD is 'In This Life Together,' inspired by the Ossie Davis-Ruby Dee autobiography.
