General Motors' design chief Ed Welburn discusses competing in today's climate. Award-winning film director Kevin Smith talks about his new film, Clerks II.
Ed Welburn
Ed Welburn is GM's design chief - only the 6th in company history and the first African American. He began his GM career in '72 as an associate designer in the advanced design studios and has held positions at Oldsmobile, Saturn and Opel. He also served as Corporate Brand Center director. His passion for performance was evident in his design of the Aerotech, which established two world records. A Philadelphia native, Welburn is a graduate of Howard University, where he studied product design and sculpture.
Kevin Smith
Kevin Smith is one of the unique voices to emerge during the American indie renaissance of the '90s. He was the idol of aspiring filmmakers when he hit the big time with his feature Clerks, which he financed by selling his comic book collection. With friend and producer Scott Mosier, Smith formed View Askew Productions and wrote and directed such cutting edge movies as Mallrats and Chasing Amy. The New Jersey native also co-exec produced the Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting. Clerks II is due for release this month.
