Former ambassador to the U.N. now New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson weighs in on the continuing crisis in the Middle East. Musician-turned-filmmaker Michael Franti discusses his new documentary and CD.
Gov. Bill Richardson
New Mexico's Gov. Bill Richardson has impressive political credentials. He served as U.N. ambassador, Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration, seven terms in Congress and, in '04, the first Hispanic chairman of a national Democratic Convention. He's also a four-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee. Richardson was elected governor in '02 by the largest margin of any candidate since '64 and, in the past two general elections, was rumored to be on the short list of VP picks by both Gore and Kerry.
Michael Franti
A singer and political activist, Michael Franti fronts the musical group Spearhead. He merges hip-hop stylings with socially conscious writings. He's inhaled tear gas on the front lines of anti-WTO rallies and lent his time and talent to support anti-death penalty legislation and conscientious objector groups. The new documentary, I Know I'm Not Alone, chronicles Franti's trip, two years ago, to Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories. He's also released "Yell Fire!," an album of politically charged music.
