Tavis talks with linguist Geoffrey Nunberg about the new book, Talking Right, and revisits his conversation with actor-comedian Martin Lawrence.
Geoffrey Nunberg
Linguist Geoffrey Nunberg teaches at UC Berkeley's School of Information. He's also a researcher at Stanford University's Center for the Study of Language and Information and a consulting professor in the Stanford Department of Linguistics. A best-selling author, his books include Going Nucular and Talking Right, a new look at political language. Nunberg is based in San Francisco and chairs the Usage Panel of the American Heritage Dictionary. He's a regular commentator for NPR and The New York Times.
Martin Lawrence
Martin Lawrence has made his mark on TV and in film. He turned his stand-up comedy act into a successful sitcom, hugely popular comedy albums and numerous box-office hits, including Big Momma's House, which he also exec produced, and Bad Boys. A military 'brat,' Lawrence was born in Germany and was encouraged to pursue a comedy career by his teacher in Maryland, where he was raised. An appearance on the talent show Star Search helped launch his career. Lawrence stars in Big Momma's House 2.
