David de Rothschild, one of the people behind the upcoming Live Earth concert, says the environment is a global issue that needs local solutions. Michael Ondaatje, author of The English Patient, explains the danger of success.

National Geographic named David de Rothschild as one of their '07 'Emerging Explorers.' He's the founder of Sculpt the Future, a nonprofit environmental foundation that aims to raise awareness through education, and Adventure Ecology, an educational charity that includes expeditions and an outreach series to make learning about the environment an adventure. He's also the author of The Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook, a companion book to the 24-hour multicontinent Live Earth concert.

Recognized as a novelist, Michael Ondaatjr got his literary start as a poet and has written several books of poetry. It is his classic novel, The English Patient—made into the Oscar-winning film—for which he's best known. Ondaatje was born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), went to school in England and then moved to Canada. He wrote about his unusual childhood in his memoir, Running in the Family. He's also done short movies and plays and recently released his much anticipated new novel, Divisidero.
