Senator, Kansas
SAM BROWNBACK
Sen. Sam Brownback was appointed the youngest Secretary of Agriculture in Kansas history before serving one term in the House of Representatives. He is currently in his second term as senator.

Former Governor, Arkansas
MIKE HUCKABEE
Mike Huckabee won a four-year term as Arkansas' lieutenant governor in 1994, but became governor after his predecessor resigned two years later. He subsequently served two full terms as governor.

Congressman, California
DUNCAN HUNTER
Rep. Duncan Hunter is serving his 13th and final term as a congressman from California. He previously worked as an attorney and is one of two Vietnam War veterans running for the nomination.

Former Ambassador
ALAN KEYES
Alan Keyes spent 11 years in the State Department, including service as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations and Ambassador to the U.N. Economic and Social Council in the Reagan administration.

Congressman, Texas
RON PAUL
Rep. Ron Paul first ran for president on the Libertarian ticket in 1988. Trained as a doctor, he served four terms in Congress before returning to his medical practice in 1985. He was elected to the House again in 1996 and is currently serving his fifth consecutive term.

Congressman, Colorado
TOM TANCREDO
Rep. Tom Tancredo served two terms in the Colorado legislature before serving in the Department of Education during the 1980s and early 90s. He is currently in his fourth term as a congressman.

Senator, Delaware
JOE BIDEN
At age 29, Sen. Joe Biden became one of the youngest people ever elected to the U.S. Senate. He is currently serving his sixth term and is Delaware's longest-serving senator.

Senator, New York
HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
The former First Lady of both Arkansas and of the nation, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000, becoming the first female senator to represent the state of New York.

Senator, Connecticut
CHRISTOPHER DODD
Elected to Congress in 1974, Sen. Christopher Dodd served three terms in the House of Representatives. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980 and is now in his sixth term.

Former Senator, North Carolina
JOHN EDWARDS
In 1998, John Edwards served as Senator for North Carolina for one term. He ran for his party's presidential nomination in the 2004 election and was the nominee for vice president in that year's general election.

Former Senator, Alaska
MIKE GRAVEL
Mike Gravel served in the Alaska House of Representatives and went on to represent Alaska in the U.S. Senate from 1969-81. He is best known for releasing the Pentagon Papers.

Congressman, Ohio
DENNIS KUCINICH
Rep. Dennis Kucinich became the youngest mayor of a major American city when he was elected in Cleveland at age 31. After a decade-long break from politics, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996.

Senator, Illinois
BARACK OBAMA
The youngest candidate in the presidential race, Barack Obama is Illinois' junior senator. He is the sole African American currently serving in the Senate and only the fifth African American senator in U.S. history.
