What Do You Think?

Accreditation

No Birth Certificate, No Medicaid

According to a new federal law, starting in July, Medicaid recipients will have to show proof that they are U.S. citizens. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the new law will save the government $735 million over the next 10 years. But some state officials worry that many African American, American Indian, elderly and poor people won't be able to come up with the documents to prove their citizenship.

Do you agree with the new law?

Yes; we need to reduce the deficit and make sure that only legal citizens are receiving Medicaid benefits.

Yes; as long as there is a provision for citizens who are unable to come up with a birth certificate or passport.

No; applicants should be asked to sign a statement about their citizenship status (as they currently do in over 40 states).

No; Medicaid should be available to all low-income residents regardless of citizenship status.

Other/none of the above

(I've already taken the poll and want to see the results.)
