A News Story with Heart
Posted by Sean Nixon, November 2, 2009 6:10 AM

For years, Byron Pitts has reported on some of the nation's most memorable stories. He's covered everything from domestic affairs in the U.S. to international conflicts around the globe. Many might even look at Pitts today and think to themselves that his life has been one of glamor and prestige.

However, it is Pitts himself who will be the first to tell you that his life's accomplishments were no easy task.

The CBS chief national correspondent and Maryland native grew up not knowing how to read until he was 12. He also lived with a stuttering problem until the age of 20. His road to success was not a likely occurrence; but through hard work and determination, he pushed himself to succeed.

He's chronicled his life's journey in his latest book, Stepping Out On Nothing. The news veteran's book offers a glimpse at how one of today's most distinguished faces in television news reached the point where he is today, and gives an honest look at how love, perseverance and dedication pays off.

For the past several weeks Pitts has shared his story with journalists, organizations and students across the country. In addition to speaking to audiences about overcoming obstacles, Pitts has continued to work tirelessly in raising awareness about the issue of adult illiteracy.

Stories like these take a great deal of courage and inner strength to share.  If you ever need a word of encouragement or could use a bit of inspiration, this is the book to read. Pitts is currently promoting his book and sharing his story with others.

If you have an opportunity, find out where Pitts is speaking next. His message is sure to touch others and motivate individuals to keep pursuing their own dreams.

See the message for yourself.
