YOUNG VOICES

Make Time to Mentor
by Sean Nixon

Today, I was reminded of an important lesson that has helpd many of us to succeed. Take the time to reach out and help someone else's life become a success story.

Today, I got the opportunity to see hands-on in real time the importance of teaching.

I took my younger cousin out for a drive and helped teach him some of the mechanics of driving.

Afterward, we got a chance to talk about his future plans, and I shared with him the importance of having plenty of options available to him.

I think he got it.

Later on, I caught up with some friends and shared my story with them. We talked about my time with my cousin and how sometimes, with our young people, it's not a question of them being good or bad. More often, it's a question of who is helping to teach them and properly guide them.

So, with that in mind, take the time to mentor. It can make you feel like a million bucks even if you've only got a penny to your name.

It's a lesson and a value that should be taught over and over again.
