The King of Pop delivers once again in the documentary "This Is It."
If you're looking for something good to watch this holiday season and have a thing for music, one suggestion is to check out
Michael Jackson in the documentary
This Is It. The film serves as a final goodbye and an inside look into arguably
one of the country's greatest entertainers of all time.
Fans
and audiences waited eagerly this year to see the King of Pop return to
stage on his farewell tour, which was scheduled to begin earlier this
summer.
When tragedy struck and news of Jackson's death hit ...

Holiday shoppers should take a careful look at store's availability of Black Friday merchandise
Look out
Black Friday shoppers. There is a deal that you may not be expecting that could leave many singing the holiday blues.
CNN Money.com reports that while some retailers are luring customers into their
stores this holiday season with teaser ads for great products, these
too good to pass up bargains may be virtually gone before you ever get to the store.
Ads like these usually employ subtle words such as "limited quantities" or "
while supplies last."
To the casual listener, that doesn't sound so bad, right? Well, what if there are only ...

A judge ruled that negligent oversight played a role in the instability of New Orleans levees during Hurricane Katrina
For years, many have speculated that
the disasters that took place along the Gulf Coast during Hurricane Katrina were more than just a catastrophic occurrence.
While many agree that
Hurricane Katrina was indeed horrific,
some believe part of the wreckage and destruction resulted from man-made errors.
According to a recent ruling by a court judge, it appears that the government did in fact make some mistakes.
An article in
The New York Times reports that
a federal circuit court judge ruled Wednesday evening that the
Army Corps of Engineers ...

For years,
Byron Pitts has reported on
some of the nation's most memorable stories. He's covered everything from domestic affairs in the U.S. to
international conflicts around the globe. Many might even look at Pitts
today and think to themselves that his life has been one of glamor and
prestige.
However,
it is Pitts himself who will be the first to tell you that his life's
accomplishments were no easy task.
The CBS chief national correspondent and Maryland native grew up not knowing how to read until he was 12. He also lived with a stuttering ...

The Obama administration recently released the names of visitors arriving to the White House
When I visited the
White House, like most people,
I got a tour that lasted roughly 10 minutes. It was a very fast tour of the one of the
nation's most recognizable and powerful centers in the world.
I would loved to have caught a glimpse of
a guy like Joe Biden,
who usually provides a lot of fodder for the late night talk show hosts, or even seen the
White House bowling alley.
While my name must not have reached the White House office yet,
there have been others ...

“A wedding is about bringing two people who love each other together”
These
days everyone is cutting back on their expenses. The
same is true for those looking to get married in these tough
financial times.
The
recession has definitely impacted the way weddings today are being
financed. People are not spending
thousands of dollars anymore, and, in return, are getting more creative with planning ceremonies
A
buddy of mine is looking to get married. He was surprised to see that
the number of courthouse marriages have really gone up over the past
few years. For him, it was a definite sign of the times that couples today are choosing
to save money and spend wisely.

The Obama Family recently released their family portrait taken in the White House
The First Family debuted their official White House portrait last Friday. It was taken inside of the
White House Green Room, by photographer extraordinaire
Annie Leibovitz.
Most people enjoy taking the opportunity to sit down and take a photo
with their family. It's
a fun opportunity to share and
cherish a brief moment in time for years to come. By the looks of all the smiles in the picture, it appears the
same is true for the Obamas.
The White House photo was taken back in September and released last week through its

Roland S. Martin takes on a new role as host of his first Sunday morning talk program.
Ask anyone in the
television
business and they will tell you (or at least they
should
) that getting your own TV show is no easy task.
Having
said that, one man's drive and relentless pursuit has finally paid off.
You may have seen him on
CNN
during the 2008 election coverage, or filling in for CNN colleague
Campbell Brown. You
may have even read his blog on
Essence.com
or even caught a political commentary of his on
TV
One or The
Tom

Either way, folks cannot say ...

Last week, U.S. Secretary of Education
Arne Duncan
and U.S. Attorney General
Eric Holder visited the city of Chicago
to address the issue of violence in the public school system.
Their visit was a very telling and sobering sign of the
plight our young children are facing today. Over the years, Chicago has seen
more than its fair share of violence, and the city's youth have fallen victim to senseless deaths with no apparent end in sight.
An-Janette

Yesterday, as I jumped online and into the realm of cyberspace, I was reminded from an unlikely source of how passionate one should truly be in their life.
I visited a website which featured
La Casa Norte, an inner-city program that works with
the city of Chicago's youth.
I watched this story about the program and was captivated by one
of the young men whose participation in the program had made a positive
change in his life.
Towards the end of the story, he said something that really stuck with me. In terms of ...

Feed The Children is just one of the organizations helping families cope with economic setbacks given the current economy.
A couple of months ago some startling
information was mentioned here on the site. What surprised me most was that no one actually commented on it. That left me to wonder whether or not people were really paying attention.
The information mentioned was a study from the
Economic Policy Institute. It stated
that the overall childhood poverty rate will climb to
27% and the poverty rate for African American children will reach
52.3% in 2010.
More than half of African American
children will likely be living in poverty next year. Take a moment to
digest that. Also, realize that these aren't just numbers on paper. ...

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading
an article by Robin Abcarian of the
Los Angeles Times. In the article, she mentioned how some of the recent
outbursts and other unfortunate moments of bad judgment left her to question whether Americans have lost a real sense of civility.
With all that we've seen lately of
people losing their cool and outright disrespecting others in public, I have to say she makes a good point. It seems as though somewhere between
cable networks showcasing shouting matches as prime time features to

The ABC network will air a series covering the Ten Commandments, beginning Thursday.
Believe it or not,
more arguments,
debates and flat out shouting matches have been stirred up on the issue of religion alone. That's pretty interesting once you
consider the idea that most religions speak of peace, love and
forgiveness.
Even with all of the heated passion and tension, conversations about religion have always been interesting to me.
I'm always
intrigued by the various points of view expressed through the dialogue and think it helps to spark more positive dialogue than it does negative.

couple of
college
graduates who said they were a bit discouraged about the economy
and their job prospects for the future. Some of them were troubled by
the

Most are also concerned about becoming

Talk show superstar Oprah Winfrey considers her departure from the show that made her famous
Since the show's
national debut in 1986, The Oprah Winfrey Show has gone on to be a staple of television programming. On ABC's
Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer asked
the queen of talk if this next season will be her last.
Winfrey says she hasn't decided yet.

celebrities jumping on couches,
audience members getting new cars and

some of the biggest interviews folks wanted to see,
The Oprah Winfrey Show was the place to see it.

It appears that silly season in America is in full swing again.
As the summer winds down from the
screaming and shouting of
town hall meetings across the country, one couldn't help wonder what
the worst thing would be during the so-called "passionate exchanges"
on healthcare reform in America.
Well, I think I found it.
According to reports,
a 65-year-old man by the name of William Rice had his finger bitten off
by a protester when he got into an argument at a healthcare rally. This certainly isn't
the type of civilized discourse members of Congress and those ...

Even though Americans have plenty of concerns to keep them up late at night, they may have to add yet another one to their list. In a recent story from CBS News, a group of presidential advisers concluded that the virus known as swine flu could have a serious impact on American lives.
How serious, you ask? Well, according to an article in The Washington Post, roughly 90,000 lives could be lost this fall to H1N1 illness.
The Center for Disease Control reports on their site that about 36,000 Americans ...

Sen. Ted Kennedy, seen here with President Obama, was a staunch supporter of U.S. healthcare reform for several decades.
Will 2009 be a no-win for America's healthcare system?
With the recent passing of Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, many questions have returned to the issue of whether or not healthcare reform in America will be achieved.
Despite many efforts by the Obama administration, support for the bill seems to be wavering.
Chris Mathews of MSNBC made the remark on the television program Morning Meeting recently that there hasn't been anyone around to truly articulate the new healthcare plan. He also noted that no ...

I wanted to share this story because I think
kids deserve credit and recognition when they do
something worthwhile. Too often I think young people aren't given enough credit for the
talent and passion they possess.
The story here is of a group of
young enterprising teens who went out and helped provide affordable,
healthy food for members of their community who otherwise
couldn't get it.

This is a story that got my attention recently. The first time I heard about the incident was last week it when it aired on MSNBC.
Now when I first heard about this, I didn't read anything into it or jump to any conclusions. The story involved people wanting to assert their constitutional right to bear arms at presidential town hall meetings.
It definitely raised a red flag and presented some concerns when one man in Arizona and close to a dozen people pop up doing the same ...

Teen star Miley Cyrus made headlines this week during her performance at the Teen Choice Awards. The 16-year-old singer and actress, most recognized from the Disney series Hannah Montana, shocked many when she appeared on stage pole-dancing.
Most likely, that's not the easiest thing for parents and teens to watch together as a family. What's really interesting is how quickly things have changed since April of 2009, when crude statements were made about Cyrus being told to make a sex tape.
Pole-dancing, however, must have somehow been okay.

Well, guess who won? None other than comedian extraordinaire John Stewart. This is one news update that actually made me smile, but left me with more questions at the end.
So let me ask you this: Is it ever a good thing when people trust a comedian more than an actual journalist?

President Obama remarks on recent events concerning Harvard Professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates and Cambridge police.

His last question of the evening came from Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times. She asked him about his thoughts on the recent incident involving Dr. Henry Louis Gates and the Cambridge police department.
President Obama's first statement was that Dr. Gates is a friend of his; so ...
