If you know a high school student who really loves exploring the world of science, email us why they should become our next Featured Student.
03student_emily_rinaldi.jpgMy name is Emily Rinaldi.  I am 14 years old and a freshman at Mid Valley High School in Dickson City, Pennsylvania.  As an athlete and young scholar, I have come to appreciate challenges of all kinds. When I have a goal in mind, I put everything I can into turning it into a reality. I strive to be very responsible. I enjoy being involved in activities both inside and outside of school.  For example, within my school, I am involved in Student Council, Home Economics Club, Outdoor Adventure Club, and most especially, science groups such as: Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, ExploraVision, Christopher Columbus Awards, and the Dickson City Forestry Department.  I am one of four representatives of the Environmental Forum and I was elected to serve as our freshman class Treasurer.

I play Varsity Women's Soccer and throw the discus, shot put and javelin with our Track & Field team. I have been playing the piano for almost six years, and am an assistant coach for one of the Valley Youth Girls Soccer Teams.  While participating in the Christopher Columbus Awards, my team of Three and I made it into the semi-finalist group for our outstanding project!  The project was based on developing a newly designed Firefighter PASS (Personal Alert Safety System).  It is a valuable device used to search for and rescue a firefighter in distress.

As you can see I am a very active and busy individual. Despite this, I also make sure to spend time with my family and friends, read historical fiction novels, take daily walks/jogs/runs, help to take care of my pets, work on homework, stay on top of my studies by doing extra reading, draw pencil sketches, email my old friends who have moved and now live in different states, listen to various kinds of music, and just relax.  I strive to be my best while remaining a normal young girl with a healthy sense of fun and adventure!

Favorite Science Video

My favorite science video is an animation of the workings of a cell with piano music.

Excellent! What a full life you lead! I think we limit ourselves by what we choose not to get involved in. Doesn't seem like you've limited yourself very much.

And what a great backdrop for your picture! Periodicity may be the clue to a lot more than many people suspect. If you doubt it, check out:

Have a great school year!

Emily, just wanted to say you should be proud of what you've done thus far in you younge life. I'm fortunate to know this younge girl personally. I know will all be proud of you with your up comming future. Good luck and keep up the great work.

Oh sweety...I think you are wonderful. But you are far, far from normal.
Nor should normal be good enough for the likes of you.
But truth be told. If you were my daughter I would very closely monitor you for signs of stress of anxiety. ( I am not saying that your parents don't. I am betting you have excellent parents.)
I wouldn't make you decrease your activities unless I saw real proof that you were having issues related to them. But I would definitely be watching you closely.
You are in a position to influence young girls ages 5-8. They look up to girls your age and I hope you are able to find time to show some local girls your age what they too can do.
I will certainly be having my 6 and 7 year old daughters read this article.
I wish you all the best. You have my admiration and respect.
