Jackie Kain is vice president of New Media at Los Angeles public television station, KCET. Ms. Kain is responsible for the station’s new media strategies with particular focus on the Internet. She has served as executive producer on numerous Web sites for PBS and KCET including A Place of Our Own/Los Ninos en Su Casa (2006 Japan Prize for Best Website); Woodrow Wilson (DVD, Communication Arts 2004 Best Information Design Award); and, kcet.org, (2007 Web Marketing Award for Best Broadcasting Website.) Prior to joining KCET, Ms. Kain was director of TV/Video exhibition at the American Film Institute and worked for Channel 4 and the British Film Institute in London, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.


Douglas Varchol

Douglas Varchol is a producer, writer and director in film, television and new media. He has created programming for, among others, The Learning Channel, Discovery Channel Europe, The History Channel, PBS and BBC World. He is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America, West, holds two masters degrees in science, and his most recent Earth Report documentary “The New Ivory Wars” will premier on BBC World in February, 2008.

His work has been honored by Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Columbia, Medill and Missouri Graduate Schools of Journalism, the National Mental Health Association, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies and many other institutions.

Melinda Wenner is a freelance science journalist based in Brooklyn, New York.
