Cafe Mahogany:
Poet Goldie E. Patrick
Does
the media encourage genocide?
As I anxiously turn the channel and see another government panel trying
to find a way, uttering out less of what I would say,
But instead selfish lies to try to disguise the backfire of their father's
plan.
No, I'm not blaming it on the man.
Huh, but he ain't innocent because he determines what the world sees,
but only on TV because I'm in charge of me.
Huh, as opposed to some damn TV Guide.
If you're guilty, don't hide, 'cause you've fallen victim like the rest.
Try to picture this on your screen, a nigger as a dope fiend and a rich
white man....
Now, do you get the picture?
We ain't singled out, it's a mixture of racist stereotypes.
Where do you fit in?
Moreover, where have you been investing your money on our image?
If you fail to see your face portrayed with style and grace then don't
be afraid to turn the station because see now they just waiting with their
power and money anticipatin' for some rebels like me to rebel because
I know we ain't destined for this hell.
We got something richer and it's no worthless picture.
It's a rich ethnic culture. Now, I ain't saying' don't watch TV but don't
get excited when you see a brother or a sister getting' in a fight 'cause
even though you know every sister ain't a 'ho and every brother ain't
slinging dope.
The people on the other end don't 'cause all they ever know of your people
might be what's in their mind to linger after they see that one episode
of Jerry Springer, that displayed us all as ignorant.
So just question the motives of what you approve for entertainment in
real life.
If you find yourself disgusted than take some action and do something
drastic like turn off the damn TV.
