THE CONCERT

Salute to Services

Coast Guard SealU.S. Coast Guard

The U.S. Coast Guard is a military, multi-mission, maritime service. It protects the public, the environment and U.S. economic interests — in the Nation’s ports and waterways, along the coast, on international waters or in any maritime region as required to support national security.

The Coast Guard is the Nation’s oldest and its premier maritime agency, and was created through the amalgamation of five originally independent federal agencies:  the Revenue Cutter Service, the Lighthouse Service, the Steamboat Inspection Service, the Bureau of Navigation and the Lifesaving Service. The multiple missions and responsibilities of the modern-day Coast Guard are directly tied to this diverse heritage and the magnificent achievements of all these agencies.
