Shortage: False Alarm?" along with images from the program.)
"I
am very interested in becoming a school teacher. I
too would like to go through an alternative certification
program in the Ft. Lauderdale, F1 area. I tried to find
out information on the web. I can't seem to find info.
Can you recommend some web sites or phone numbers? I would
be so grateful. Thank you in advance for your help. I
enjoyed your show. Thank you for such information. I hadn't
heard of alternative certification. I've wanted to be
a teacher for years."
"I
am very interested in finding out more information about
the alternative program for getting a teaching education,
other than full time college studies. I would like to
pursue a teaching career, but cannot attend college full
time. I am currently teaching a two-year old class that
meets twice a week, at a local Baptist private school.
I really enjoy this, and hope that you can give me more
information on how to pursue teaching as a career."
"I spent 22.5 hours a week in internships and my
main responsibility was to assist students (but not in
a teaching capacity) and sharpen pencils for a GED teacher.
My internships were a total waste of time. When I told
the professor in charge of the program about it, his reply
was 'someone's got to do it'. As a result of my desire
to learn more, I was labeled 'difficult,' which followed
me to my next internship at an alternative school the
following semester. As a result, I have no desire to teach.
Please DO NOT print my name."

"I am a freshman at Ohio State University planning
to study Elementary Education. Should I reconsider because
of the issues discussed on today's special? Is there really
going to be a lot of money wasted in my education by choosing
this field of study? What is the right choice?"
"Could you please provide a listing of Alternative
Teacher Certification programs? It seems that you
might have done the research for me. Since I am looking
to make a career change after my military commitment,
your program struck a cord about the Alternative program."
"Please send me more information about where one can
obtain an alternative degree and what programs are
out there. I have had the fortunate opportunity to have
been in various different career fields and have a broad
range of life experience. I am currently finishing my
college degree at 44 and this has been quite a hardship.
I was a school-based mentor (for very little money I might
add) at our local middle school and found that I was very
effective teaching the high-risk students under my care.
Teaching is a talent that is more innate than what other
fields may require and that is something you can't teach.
I'm all for the alternative certification, so that people
wanting to make a difference, who have the skills and
ability, are enabled to contribute."
