 Johnetta Cole: Cross-Racial Friendships- A Mirror on American Culture
American colleges are made up of students from strikingly diverse backgrounds and interests. Social critics often accuse students of "sticking to their own." Johnetta Cole, Anthropologist and former President of Spelman College, addresses the problem of self-segregation among minority groups, the importance of friendships that cross racial boundaries.

 Jacques Steinberg: Dismantling Bilingual Education
On election day, Arizona voted to ban bilingual education programs throughout the state. California passed a similar ban in 1998, forcing one million immigrant children into English immersion classes. The success of 'English immersion' in CA is a hotly debated issue.
