Talk Back

"This woman's question is a dangerous question... What is the role of women in the church? Is there such a thing as a woman being called to priesthood? Those are questions...I'm in good company calling for that discussion. I have never insisted that I know the answer. I do know that it's a question."
-- Sister Joan Chittister

Caption: Why is it not an equally valid quuestion whether men are called to the priesthood? It seems to me that the question contains an implicit assumption: that there is a God/god and that God/god might prefer men over women. What authority is there for that assumption other than documents written by men? I think faith calls us to shoulder a much heavier burden than knowledge: to beleive without proof. I beleive God/god does not play favorites. That means that women make as good priests as men. It's a separate discussion as to how good at being priests either is.

We desperately need clear-sighted courageous leaders who love humanity and accept all beliefs as that person's personal belief or non-faith. Do we need prophets and books to teach us common sense and critical thinking?

Caption: It would have been helpful if there had been a female in the bible with the same credientials as abraham, moses, or jesus. This is not a new issue. It has been around for decades maybe even centuries. In the church they believe that men must be priests and women not. Either this doctrine of exculsion must be accepted or ignored. If accepted then everything remains the same if ignored someone will probably need to start an off shoot of the church with women priests. What other options are there? The issue has been talked to death. Of course women should serve as priests because as b.l. jean says it is common sense and it will be justice.
