Welcome to the Moyers Student Blog Assignments
Assignment I

  1. Watch BILL MOYERS JOURNAL: Buying the War. This film is available to view in its entirety at http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/btw/watch.html

  2. Take note of the roles that different journalsts played in covering the war, and consider these questions:

    • Did the press serve or fail the public in the lead up to the War in Iraq? What do you see as successes and what do you see as failures?
    • What influences shaped the editorial decisions and techniques of each journalist featured?
    • What is the role of journalists in times of international conflict?
    • What responsibilities do you, as a journalist, have in your job informing the public?

  3. Write an op-ed piece (no more than 400 words) on the role of journalism in the lead up to the war. Respond directly to the film, if you like.
