Employment Resources for Veterans

Finding and maintaining steady employment in a good paying job provides a fundamental foundation for the lives of veterans and their families. The following organizations provide training and placement assistance for U.S. military veterans and their spouses seeking employment. 

FedsHireVets

This online resource is maintained by the U.S. Office of Personnel management to help transitioning service members, veterans and their families find jobs in the U.S. government. Job fair announcements, training initiatives, stories of veterans who have used this resource and government policy related to hiring veterans are all available on the site.

DOL: Veterans’ Employment & Training Services (VETS)

The U.S. Department of Labor administrates this program to prepare veterans and separating service members for the civilian work environment by offering curriculum-based training, providing employment resources and educating veterans regarding their employment rights.

Get Skills to Work

This initiative offers information and resources to help veterans and transitioning service members match a skill set to a job in manufacturing. They offer an online career assessment tool, a badge system that translates Military Occupational Specialty codes to manufacturing jobs, a networking resource and a list of institutions that offer educational courses.

Hire Heroes USA

This nonprofit organization provides personalized assistance to help find jobs for unemployed veterans and transitioning service members. They identify available jobs in the corporate world, offer assistance to create effective resumes and work with applicants to hone interview skills, among other services.

HirePatriots

This organization that began with a knock on the founder’s door from a Marine in need of work now offers support and guidance for unemployed veterans facing a variety of challenges. They post One-Day-Jobs, career jobs and other resources to help with skill building for long term employment.
