Yosemite's Camp Curry
In September 2008 I spent a great week in a tent cabin in Curry Village, one of the campgrounds in the Yosemite Valley, sited beneath steep cliffs of the valley wall. One morning a mother bear and cub hurried through the camp on their way to the woods on the talus slope behind it. My tent was nestled among huge granite boulders that had fallen in ages past from Glacier Point, soaring thousands of feet above the campground.
Just a few weeks later the news told of a rockfall from Glacier Point that smashed parts of Curry Village and injured a camper, resulting in closure of part of the camp nearest the cliffs. I've often wondered if I was one of the last to stay in tent 574.
