Bison Commute

Yellowstone National Park, WY
Caran Crawford, Cedar Falls, IA

On an early July morning drive from Grant Village Campground to Mammoth Hot Springs, we drove through the misty geyser basin area. Out of the mist emerged a large bison, in the southbound lane, at a healthy trot and with his head down, seemingly intent on the road. Later that morning, we drove south again on the same road and encountered a bison (who looked like our bison) lying near the road, posed for pictures. We wondered if we had seen him on his daily commute to his photo shoot.
