Listening to the Voters Voices

posted by Darren Gersh, Washington Bureau Chief at 5:58 PM on 12/06/07

Photo of Darren GershOver the course of this campaign, I will have the privilege of speaking with hundreds of thoughtful people about their hopes for this country. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that conversation will make it into the regular broadcast. I've always thought that is a shame. Some stories are so focused, they leave little room for an offbeat, but fascinating thought.

The Voters Voices section of our election website gives us a chance to share with you more insights from the people we speak with over the next year. If you visit the site, you'll find short video clips of your fellow voters talking about issues as wide-ranging as immigration, leadership, and health care. I hope you enjoy Voters Voices, and I hope you will add your voice to the conversation by posting your comments here.

I'm proud of our country for voting our first black President. Evan though the country is slow to civil right policies as the same sex issue is still a problem. I enjoyed the Amassador from Germany when he voiced that correction on President Obama that the entire world not just the United States has a lot of inprovment to do. Especially in light of the fact that Germany's Chancellor is a woman, Angela Merycle.

There has been a lot of talk about the millions made by the CEOs and other executives of the various financial institutions that we are trying to "bail out". WHY are we not going after them and getting that money back? WHY is there no legal action being taken to force them to pay into this bail out????

Ken Mayland's comments on the Obama economic plan ( 9/22) left me wondering if NBR has any objectivity. It was nothing short of a cynical and obviously biased reactionism. I would echo the comments of the above posters. Steve (Sept 5) and Dr. Amin on health care. At this moment, with the failure of investment banking, neither candidate can say for sure how to stop the bleeding, but a wholesale condemnation of anything Democratic speaks to defensiveness rather than insight. Besides that, Mr. Mayland has a terrible hair style.

Do your stock pickers think that it adds to their credibility when they say that any tax increase will damage the economy and tax cuts are the solution when all evidence points in the opposite direction?

They all seem to fear a Democratic victory when all evidence points to the fact that the economy does better under a democrat than under a republican.

It is not a good investing strategy to stick to what you think ought to be true when all the evidence points in the opposite direction. You have to invest with the economy you have, not the economy you wish you had.

Dear Dr. Amin,

Thank you for your interest in Nightly Business Report. We always appreciate hearing comments and suggestions from our viewers. We will take all of your feedback into consideration.

Sincerely,
Denise Royal

TO, DENNIS ROYAL, THE PRODUCER OF NBR...
I am yr faithful follower of yr show numerous yrs. I have made good ,on the daily financial news.
But, now u have had competition from CNBC, Jim Cramer and Fast Money...most is jibberish, noise, hype. Plus most of us dont have time to watch it all day. Thats where u come in.
BUT,
Its great..but yr show is only 18 mins !--all day's financials compressed in such a short time.
U sure can improve yr programme, for regular folks like us who have mutual funds, 401K,529 ,IRA,college kids, etc.etc.Who cares about grain futures.
Mr. Kangas is a great guy, but please allow yr experts or the guests, on Fridays, to more time, so that they can finish their story!
More and more people are investing in ETFs' and lots of Seniors are searching for income orientated instruments--stocks, bonds,Closed End Funds, ETNs.
Financial planners are suggesting 40 % exposure to non-US markets, some gold , energy, commodity etc.
U hardly have any coverage on these above asset class!
May be u can show a ticker tape at the bottom of the screen for non essential stuff.
u should invite CEOs of S&P 500 or Dow co. to explain whats going on with their co.,what are their future plans and why should Jo Blow invest in his co...while u 're doing yr segment, run a profile of the co...Mrktcap, PE, yield etc.etc.and what analysts are recommending...
U could make it interesting.
Hiliary Cramer- she is good...great advice all the time..
Maybe u need to take a survey from yr faithful followers..u will be surprised with the results..
Thanks.
Kindly pl acknowledge, good or bad.

ON IMMIGRATION:
We indeed need immigration. We need new improved, skilled, hungry - back- breaking- workers. U know what I mean. We need more and more skilled workers, who can produce more and more Eintseins, to produce more tech for the mankind.
I have a deal for u---lets invite those who want to work , exchange them for those who dont want to, lazy suckers on welfare, dead beats, liars on fake disability...
ON HEALTH CARE:
All Western Developed countries including-Japan,Aussies,New Zealanders, all SE Pacific countries, and lately China have Health covered by their mother country. Citizens of these countries do have a choice of Private Health.
Even these countires have better health care index.
We have Govt.Health Ins in this country already -Medicare for Seniors, Medicaid for the disadvantaged-Single pregnant mothers and etc.- and is working well, with no restriction of any kind. 300 lbs patients are getting knee replacements, gastric bypasses etc. unfortunately to have it done again since that patient never changed her lifestyle!
So Govt. Health Ins. is working, it should work for all Americans.
Finally, all Americans should have same Health Ins. for the same out of pocket dollrs as our elected Fedral politicians--senators etc.
