My Interview with President Bush

posted by Susie Gharib, Anchor at 5:53 PM on 03/12/08

Photo of Susie Gharib. If you watch the broadcast tonight, you'll see my in-depth interview with President George W. Bush. (If you miss the program, look for the video and transcript of the interview on the NBR website.) I thought I'd use this blog entry to share with you what I call my "Reporter's Notebook." The notebook contains my impressions of my conversation with the President.

The interview took place in the Map Room of the White House, where FDR studied military maps during WWII. As for the mood, President Bush was upbeat and confident about the outlook for the economy, despite the recent gloomy economic news. When I asked him about what he plans to do after he leaves the White House in January, he mentioned several projects. At the top of his list is a book which he plans to write without the help of a ghost writer.

I also asked President Bush if he thinks Senator Hillary Clinton or Senator Barack Obama will be the Democratic challenger to Senator John McCain in the general election. He said it's "too close to call."

Hello Susie and Paul,
For years I've watched NBR every evening
and consider it one of the most educational
news shows on TV. The interview with W was
an all time high for NBR. What a thrill it
must have been. I'm not a big fan of W
but I am of Susie and Paul! Let me know
if you're ever in Seattle... My treat at
Starbuck's!
Thanks! Randy in Seattle

A few weeks back a guest promoted the QQQQ
and a PUT index PUD?? PUQ??
which I charted at the time

but now for the life of me I can't
find any reference to the 'PUT' index

HELP, anyone ( GOOGLE didn't help either )

Ken

Susie,
Do you have any influence with Paul? He said tonight that a $0.30 rise on a $10 stock was a small one and a $11 rise on a $140 stock was a big one. I'm sure he has a lot more $ than I do and he does not claim to be a mathematician but give me a break. It took Wall street 100 years to get rid of fractional prices. Will it take another 100 to realize that it is the % change that counts. Just quote the new price and the % change. Get on the dope. But I love you.

dear susie, you are angel in troubled times. keep up the good work and smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susie, you did a great job as usual in your interview with Bush. I don't see how you could've kept a straight face. (you are good!). Do you think this man really knows how much of a chaos the real world of human beings is in? Does he care? I think he's a sad excuse for a president...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Susie,
I read the transcript of the interview. As always you do a professional job. There is an overall observation of the interview is that the global economy that we are in is well at work. Trade and oil supply is just a part of the is global economy. China and India are having a big impact with oil consumption as well as need for raw materials. The President made a good point – he is just a President. Any President does not control over oil prices nor economic events. If there is any blame – it is Congress with their overspending, which suppresses economic growth, and over regulating and taxation of energy technologies.
Regards

Susie: Excellent interview with President Bush. How come you didn't ask the Pres. about the barrowing of huge sums of money for the Iraq war. I would think there is a relationship between spending money we don't have and the condition of the US ecomony.

I can't stop laughing - Bush is going to write a book without a ghost writer - is it going to be a comic book????

He can't even deliver a complete sentence without an error in grammar - "Our children IS learning" - He's the joke of the century!

Hey Susie,
Not usually a big Bush fan.Independent. Suprised that I agreed with most of what he said. You were great. Good questions and good chemistry. Hope you do it again. Thanks,
Tom

Hi Susie,
I enjoyed your interview with President Bush as much as I've ever enjoyed listening to him speak. That said, I believe that you did a fine job, as usual. I am curious about one thing: Were these questions given to the president to study, and memorize his answers, before the interview? Or, were the questions given to you to give to him? I've only seen him sound the way he did after he's had time to study the material. I'm just curious. Thanks for the interview.

Nice job with the interview. Great questions. I am still laughing about some of the answers. Gonna be a LONGGGGGGG 10 months til January 20, 2009.

Excellent interview Ms. Gharib. It is unbelievable that the price for a gallon of gas was $1.43 after President Bush was first inaugurated in 2001 and is now approaching $3.25, more than double. Meanwhile American companies like Disney (a planned $5bil. dollar investment in Dubailand) are investing overseas.

I hope V.P. Cheney can strong talk the Saudi King into reducing oil prices the way he did former CIA director Tenet for intellegence to support our going to war in Iraq.

Thank you again.

you did a great job with the President. I really enjoyed watching the whole interview.
