On tonight’s program, I covered recession resistant jobs. Our staff came up with a few more that didn’t make experts list.
Washington reporter Dana Greenspon originally suggested this topic weeks ago, and she proposed anything tied to the wedding industry. Her thinking was that people will splurge on weddings – no matter how rough the economy. Our New York marketing director Howard Grossman suggested barber/hairstylist, since people always need haircuts.
I suggested supermarket workers. People still have to eat. And they probably dine out less when they’re worried about their jobs, so you would expect that industry to hold up well. I was also surprised that defense was not cited as an area that should not be affected by the economy -- given the military conflict in Iraq.
Care to nominate any ideas of good industries for job hunters to consider? Are you worried about your own job? What field are you in?
