Susie Gharib Profiled by MarketWatch

posted by Wendie Feinberg, Managing Editor at 11:27 AM on 05/23/08

Promo image of Susie GharibIt's unusual for Nightly Business Report to be making news, rather than our usual role of reporting and analyzing it. But that's the case today, thanks to Jon Friedman at MarketWatch. His column about our anchor Susie Gharib is generating a lot of buzz on the web. We thought you'd like to read his column yourself.. as well as the comments posted at the end of it.

Rick Newman, the commentator on last night's show, got the definition of "spendthrift" wrong. A spendthrift is not a thrifty person at all but a profligate. Conrad Hilton was not a spendthrift, but Paris Hilton is.
Maybe Rick has the right idea though. I think most people think that a spendthrift is a thrifty person. Of course! Since a definition is supposed to be what most people think a word means, have Rick call Random House and have them change the definition. If he can't convince them, then he's wrong, and shame on him.

Three cheers for Susie Gharib and NBR! Think about it: If you're going to watch business news program--even impacting the way you live--why would anyone watch a program consisting of infotainment, fluff and spin? Fortunately, that's not necessary. Just tune in to NBR. One of the classiest shows on the air.

Paul --

We also had issues with our streaming video from May 26th. About a minute and a half of the top of the program was cut off. We are currently working to recapture and reupload the program to the site. Should be up and running by 12PM eastern.

Mary --

We had issues with our databases this holiday weekend. As a result, the transcript of the Jimerson interview was not published on our website until yesterday. You can access it now via the ON AIR button in the NBR website menu bar. Look for the "Market Monitor" category. The transcript includes Jimerson's picks.

Here is the direct link to the transcript, if you prefer: Market Monitor for May 23, 2008.

Ms Gharib;
On the 5/26/2008 Retirement Presentation, in the Wash. DC area we missed the first few minutes and had an extra 2 minutes and 40 seconds of silence at the end. This is with streaming video - tonight's program using iTunes on a Mac. Also happened last week.

Watch your show daily, and take notes. Keep up the good work.

Paul S.

ditto on Susie Gharib! She is a very intelligent lady and I like her style of interviewing. I just can't brag on her enough. She doesn't hog the interview, letting the guest speak, but when Susie does speak, she gets right to the point and does so with good journalism.

Keep her....I am so proud you have her.
