This is a big night for Barack Obama and the nation.
It’s the 45th anniversary of Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech. This is certainly a night to consider how far American has come on race relations and how far it has to go.
War and peace are on the table. The sorry state of our financial system deserves attention too.
But if we step back from the big picture, we also find “little” questions that haven’t been answered. To name just a few: Obama hasn’t told us how small a business has to be to qualify for the zero capital gains rate he proposes. He hasn’t detailed how big a company has to be before it is required to pay into his new health insurance fund. Maybe the campaign will tease that out. Len Burman at the Tax Policy Center is trying to analyze the campaign health plans right now, but he says it’s not an easy task given how little we now know.
We also don’t have a good fix on details of Obama’s corporate loophole closers. And when it comes to cracking down on tax shelters, the devil is the details. This is tough stuff and it’s hard to see how Obama reaches his goal of $76 billion a year in savings.
I understand that campaigns are not supposed to deliver tax legislation. And convention speeches are not a time to bury the public in details. But Obama can't ignore what this new Pew Research Center poll confirms: The public doesn't know much about his policy plans. We know he's been advised to offer the American people specific ideas on how he will improve their lives. If that’s his goal, he might want to start by detailing his key proposals on taxes and health insurance so we can all do a better job evaluating them before November.

Darren Gersh claimed on NBR, Aug 29, 2008 that Palin was progressive on global warming.

“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location,” Palin said, adding, “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”
Darren Gersh lies.
I saw you parrot Republican talking points on the Nightly Business Report.
You repeated the phrase "The maverick is back!" TWO TIMES. Yet how does the "maverick" propaganda apply when McCain didn't pick who he wanted to (Lieberman) and instead picked a far-right orthodox rightwinger who Karl Rove and others hand picked?
You spun, spun, spun that Palin was a "reformer", despite being investigated for abuse of power and ties to Ted Stevens. You claimed the Obama camp was "harping" in its criticism. I wonder, is "harping" a perjoritve or neutral term? Is "maverick" a neutral term or partisan branding?
Shame on you for polluting public television with your partisan propaganda.
