Making a Fresh Start in this Recession

posted by Brigitte Yuille, Blogger at 11:10 AM on 05/26/09

Brigitte YuilleMany people are looking to make a fresh start these days.

So here's a question: How much would the salary have to be in order for you to uproot and move to a new location for a job?

WomenCo., an online community for professional women, wants you to take some precautions when chasing that great salary because although the paycheck may be good, the city may have rent that's out of control or rising unemployment.

Its staff decided to dig through some facts and figures regarding growth rates, average salaries and costs of living to determine the top 25 cities that offer the most value in 2009. Bookmark the survey as you debate your decision to move. But also know that even in this survey Texas continues to come out on top.

Some job seekers driven to make a fresh start are taking steps even more dramatic than moving to a new city. A select few are visiting a plastic surgeon. ABCNews reported on an older job seeker who got a facelift to compete with younger workers. While this is an extreme that few job coaches would recommend, the story drives home the point about people in search of fresh starts.

What measures are you willing to take to make a fresh start? Tell us about them.

Generating leads and new business is never an easy thing to do. But in today's tough economy, it can be harder than ever. Fearful about the future, prospects are clutching to their time just as much as they are their budgets. Nobody wants to make a bad decision, and so the cold calls aren't connecting. Rather than turn to you for help, clients are logging onto the Internet in search of lower prices – even after you've already done a fabulous job for them.
