"Skype" NBR To Get Your Questions Answered on Air

posted by Denise Royal, Producer at 3:37 PM on 10/23/09

As a single woman, I NEVER wait for men to call, so I was giddy when Jim Simonin of New Mexico called me right on time yesterday at 2:05 p.m. Now, now, before you get any ideas, Jim isn't a man I'm dating. He's a viewer who used Skype to be our first on-air guest in our new "Can You Tell Me?" segment.

Jim SimoninThere was something else pleasantly surprising about Jim. I was expecting some college kids and a few other 20-somethings to call us on Skype with questions. But Jim is 73 years old. He's a retired engineer who loves technology. His web cam was crystal clear and we had a great conversation. You'll have to stay tuned to NBR to hear his questions on the air.

Here's the point: NBR is trying some new things like Skype and we want to hear from YOU to answer your questions on the economy and personal finance.

We were able to connect with a couple of other callers who are also loyal NBR viewers as well. Thanks to all of you who contacted us.

There were a couple of technical glitches with more than one person calling in at once. But please bear with us as we iron those out. If you call us and that happens, please call back. We can only record one caller at a time.

We'd really love to hear from you! Email us at tellme@nbr.com. and let us know what time you're on Skype. We'll call you and record it. Please have a couple of questions handy.

You won't be sorry - and I'll be waiting for your call!

I also dont understand how recording a webcam call is new! I checked out Shovio and they are taking live webcam calls live! you dont have to email anyone and let them know when you'll be on. you watch the show live and if you feel like calling in to talk about something, you can do it in seconds with just a click of a button. Goodluck Skype but it seems like Shovio is way ahead in their technology!

Denise, I assume that not enough viewer's have Skyped NBR? That's unfortunate, especially since I believe the interactive concept was a great idea! I've noticed that they are no longer advertising to have viewer's Skype in, so I would imagine it's a dead issue. Maybe like so many ideas the time was just not right, don't give up hope. Good luck with the show, I'll be watching. Thanks for the opportunity to participate.

Jim.. I stand corrected.

Hi! Just a few corrections. First I'm 73 and second I watch KCOS out of El Paso because KRWG air's NBR at 5PM when I'm watching CBS network news. I reside in Las Cruces NM not El Paso TX.

Thanks and good luck with the "call in concept"!

Jim Simonin

why to use Skype (the clunky technology)if you can use Shovio. Skype is not broadcasting system and never will be LOL it is a video call! email us, tell us when you will be on...truly technical lol Shovio briadcasts to millions of viewers and in the same time takes a call from anyone of them without previous arrangement! this technology will be available to anyone in november.
